Frequently
Asked Questions.
Everything you need to know about children's dentistry.
When should my child have their first dental visit?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a child's first visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth erupting, whichever comes first. Early visits let us monitor development and catch small issues before they grow.
How can I help my child feel comfortable at the dentist?
Talk about visits in positive, simple terms, avoid words like "hurt" or "shot," and consider bringing a comfort item. Our team is experienced at pacing exams to a child's comfort level and explaining each step in friendly, age-appropriate language.
Do baby teeth cavities really need treatment?
Yes. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth and support proper chewing, speech, and jaw development. Untreated cavities can cause pain, infection, and even affect the permanent tooth developing underneath, so we treat them just as seriously as adult cavities.
When should sealants be applied?
Sealants are typically applied as soon as the first and second permanent molars erupt, usually around ages 6 and 12. These teeth have deep grooves that are especially cavity-prone, and sealing them early offers years of protection.
How often should children see the dentist?
Most children benefit from a checkup and cleaning every six months, though some kids with higher cavity risk may be seen more frequently. We'll recommend the right interval based on your child's individual needs.
Does insurance cover children's dental care?
Most Canadian dental insurance plans cover routine pediatric exams, cleanings, fluoride, and sealants, and many children also qualify for coverage through the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). We verify benefits and bill directly so you know your costs upfront.
